About the Author
Alistair Fitter is Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Professor of Ecology at the University of York. Among his publications are the Collins Pocket Guide to Wild Flowers and an Atlas of the Wild Flowers of Britain and Europe. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society, a Past President of the British Ecological Society, a member of NERC Council and an editor of the journal New Phytologist. David More has been a botanical illustrator for many years. His other books include Collins Tree Guide (2004), Trees of North America (1988) with the late Alan Mitchell, and the Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Trees (2003) by John White. He has also contributed artwork for many other books, magazines and posters, including a design for the Natural History Museum in London.

Collins Gem Trees

This Collins Gem guide to Trees is simply brilliant. In a simple pocket sized format you get comprehensive information about a wide variety of trees that is easy to reference whilst at home or out and about. On each double page spread you get one page of information including Latin names, bark, leaves, flowers, fruit and related species and on the facing page you get a variety of colour illustrations of the various parts of the tree so you an distinguish one tree from another with ease. This also has a wonderful introduction with information about trees in general. This is an attractive and extremely useable book and is well worth a look if you like country walks and would like to identify more trees as you go.
