A tease becomes a revelation

In what turned out to be a colossal tease, Laurence Gardner, in his second major work, Genesis of the Grail Kings, gave us a brief description of a curious white powder produced in ancient Egypt that had phenomenal gravitational, transformational and inspirational powers. The substance was the result of a secret process whereby gold and platinum group metals were transformed into a white powder which the Egyptians called MFKZT (pronounced muf-kutz). The powder, though derived from heavy metals, had a negative weight (less than zero), and transmitted the same weightlessness to its container. When ingested, the powder brought heightened spiritual awareness to its user, and it supposedly could transport itself or its user into a different time/space dimension, called the Field of MFKZT, or the Plane of Shar-on. The inference was made that MFKZT provided the technical ability to lift all of the millions of multi-ton blocks into place in the Giza Pyramids, and that the Field of MFKZT was the final destination of the Pharaohs after their earthly existence.
Partly due to the reaction by his reading public, Gardner promised a whole book on the subject, but, in the meantime, came out with another book (Realm of the Ring Lords), which, while very interesting, didn't add to the information about MFKZT he had given us in his previous book. At long last, Gardner has kept his word, and has published Lost Secrets of the Sacred Ark.
Lost Secrets of the Sacred Ark is Gardner's account of the famous Ark of the Covenant. In relating the fascinating information about the Ark, Gardner gives us a comprehensive explanation of the whole concept of MFKZT, its role in the powers of the Ark, and its history through the ages, including up to the present day. Gardner's theory is that MFKZT is actually the mysterious and elusive Philosophers' Stone. We have heard so much about alchemists throughout history attempting to turn lead into gold, when all the while the real transformational process so closely guarded over the past five millennia has been that of turning gold into this astonishing substance.
If you only read one of Gardner's four major works, I suggest that it be this one. However, you should do yourself the favor of reading all four (the others being Bloodline of the Holy Grail, Realm of the Ring Lords, and Genesis of the Grail Kings), as they separately and collectively have brought us compelling, important, and groundbreaking insights to the understanding of our ancient history and our religious belief systems and institutions.

A compelling and scholarly work

International best-selling author Laurence Gardner, has fulfilled all expectations with this well researched and scholarly approach to a mystery that spans thousands of years.
Gardner's contention is that the Biblical Ark of the Covenant was in reality: a capacitor that made it a powerful and deadly weapon, a superconductor that allowed it to levitate above ground, and a machine for manufacturing a substance called "Mfkzt" by the ancient Egyptians, "manna" by the Hebrews, and the "philosophers stone" by alchemists. At first glance, these propositions seem preposterous, and yet, after following his trail of logic, one wonders how it could have been anything other than what he insists it was.
A 1904 expedition to Mount Horeb (which the King James Version of the bible claims was the place Moses received the Ten Commandments) discovered the ruins of an Egyptian temple with hundreds of artifacts including: huge statues, obelisks, round tables, crucibles, vases and wands, and most significantly tons of a white powder conceled beneath flagstone. Through his research Gardner has ascertained that this white substance called "mfkzt" was a monotomic powdered gold.
By a special process of arc heating, gold and other platinum group metals, can be turned into a single atom or monotomic substance, that has superconductive properties. Superconductive materials are capable of leviation above magnetic fields, and Gardner speculates, that the powdered substance contained in the ark might have given it such capabilities. How else, he asks would it have been possible for four men to carry the ark when the lid alone, which was made of pure gold, has been calculated to have weighed around 2,714 pounds. It has been determined that a superconductive material will lose about 40% of its weight as a result of repulsing the earths own magnetic field. This could have made the transport of the ark manageable and therefore consistant with biblical references of the ark being marched around the city of Jericho for example.
The ark's design gives credence, as well, to stories of the destrutive powers of the ark. Biblical records clearly specifiy that the ark was constructed of wood sandwiched between layers of gold. Gardner realized that these are the specifications of a simple capacitor, and calculates that the ark would have charged to several thousand volts, making it a powerful and deadly weapon.

As we find out in this story, the superconductive properties of mfkzt was really only a by-product that the ancients might have stumbled upon. Its main purpose was that of consumption. Numerous ancient references of mfkzt, often called "white bread" or "manna" relate to it being eaten for its healthful affects. Recent biochemical experiments have confirmed that monotomic platinum group metals have shown antiaging affects by increasing melatonine production, stimulate the pineal and pituitary glands, and in turn reactivation "junk DNA."
Gardner parallels the story of this ancient mystery with contemporary physics, as well as a tale of intrigue and government conspiracy regarding a farmer, who discoverd the monotomic substance on his Arizona ranch!
At times, this book was a bit tedious for me, because of the endless historical references, but this is only a criticism of my own lack of knowledge and interest in this area. For the most part, however, this book read like a good mystery novel and I'm glad that I stuck with it for the wealth of knowledge within. All in all this book was a gem.

Laurence Gardner's credentials are impeccable, and his latest work will further enhance his reputation as the top scholar in his field. "Lost Secret of the Sacred Ark" came about by popular demand from readers who were intrigued by his references in previous books to such terms as shewbread, highward fire stone and even the Philosopher's Stone. Gardner has uncovered a different purpose for the Ark of the Covenant than that we have been led to believe by benighted clerics. The real use for the Ark was that of a scientific nature, a gold-laden capacitor with an "arc" able to manufacture a mysterious substance. This substance was not the transmutation of baser metal into gold but of gold being turned into a miracle medicine, with the ability also to manipulate space-time and prized above all else in antiquity. Beginning at an Egyptian temple in the Sinai Peninsula, the author takes us on a tour of ancient civilizations who so long ago practiced hyperdimensional physics that we are just now realizing. Our journey takes us from ancient temples to modern laboratories today, and we learn that temples then were not for the worship of gods but were the workshops for the gods. Gardner's writing affords us a new perspective on events in biblical times as well as an understanding of quantum mechanics. The book contains credible and impressive source citations, a comprehensive bibliography, and appendices ranging from ancient genealogies to current gold standards. I believe this book is the most meaningful revelation since the splitting of the atom because this secret can not only heal disease but it can literally move mountains. Highly recommended.

*I* didn't forget Mog

I must have gotten Mog when I was 3 or 4 years old. I loved it as a little kid, I still get a kick out of it now. My nieces love cats, as I do, and so it's a joy to find it's still in print. Anyone who knows a cat can identify with Mog, the perpetually absent-minded cat with the 10-second attention span. Miraculously, she saves her owners *because* she's not the brightest bulb on the billboard.
I plan on ordering (eventually) a few copies...mine has survived 25 years, been on cross-country moves, chewed on by the family dog, and it's still a family treasure. Hopefully it'll be in print for another 30 years.

Surprisingly good on all counts.

The categories above don't really apply to a massive anthology of plays, essays, poetry, and fiction. I was skeptical of this edition at first: those cheap/free loving-amateur compilations of public domain works after often riddled with typos, but I was pleasantly surprised; I've seen worse inaccuracies in books from major publishers. (The only problem was in that apparently the technology used by at least one transcriber did not support the Greek-language font, and the words Wilde left in the Greek alphabet were omitted; I wish the transcriber had at least tried to transliterate.) Wilde's major work (like the most perfect comedy in the English language, The Importance of Being Earnest) has been reprinted, but some of his essays and plays are simply hard to find outside a Complete Works in a university library. It's interesting to have both versions of The Picture of Dorian Gray in one place; some of his less popular works, like his first play, Vera, turn out to be better reading than I expected. Even the porno novel, Teleny, which the editors admit probably isn't by Wilde but may be a collaborative work by several of his friends, is entertaining: a
love story disguised as what the Victorians considered hard-core! There are some early biographical sketches of Wilde that are amusing (though not to be taken with the same authority as a modern biography like Richard Ellmann's): Frank Harris obviously found Wilde as adorable as exasperating and never understood him in the least, and his fellow Irishman Shaw was--typically Shaw. This collection should support Wilde's reputation as one of the world's greatest writers.

Actually a Complete Edition

The Collins edition of Oscar Wilde's complete works is the only one I've ever found that actually is *complete*. It contains not only all of his plays, fairy tales, and short stories, but also most of his essays (some brilliant writing) and *all* his poems. Many books say they do, but there are a few tiny gems that oft go unnoticed (such as "Love Song" and a lovely little piece with no name). A truly wonderful edition of a truly wonderful writer, or, as Wilde himself might say, "Quite utterly lovely." Also, if I am not mistaken, contains several pages of pictures of Wilde and his family.

Rich voice reading familiar works...it's Mr Thomas his-self

When I bought a couple of Dylan Thomas vinyls, him reading his poems like, I went who is this bleedin' toff reading in a plummy BBC accent? Who stole the little runty Welshman? See, my excuse was I only had heard him in me head. All those books of his and biographies I read through the seventies. I could recite "Do not go gentle" and a fair chunk of "Childs Xmas". I loved the trickery of his words, the inverted poems, the shapes on the page that showed the brilliance of his mind, his craft and earthy humour. So I kind of imagined someone wheezier than Burton, but full of ale and rollicking his way through his work like a boar badger, smelly, more than a bit wild and certainly not someone you'd lend a fiver to and expect to see it return...But, damn the man. It is good hearing him recite his own work. You can hear how he wrote to be read, the emphasis on words that is richly vibrant. Just wish they would release him reading Under Milkwood. I am sure I had that on vinyl, it was good and it went missing. I use it in the car on longish journeys. Works for me and a lot of his work is still spell binding.

Dylan Thomas reading his poetry

Excellent 2 audio-cassette recording of all the major, and some minor, Dylan Thomas poems including 'Fern Hill', 'Poem in October', 'Do not go gentle' etc. My favourites are 'Over Sir John's Hill', 'Hunchback in the Park', 'On the marriage of a virgin', 'Light breaks where no sun shines' - all on these tapes. I was hoping that the recording would include Thomas' famous introduction to poetry called 'A few words of a kind' but sadly that is not on these tapes.

Cute kids books

I love these books. I am a teacher in a toddler class and we already have two of the books from this series, so when I was writing a lesson plan for our dinosaur week for our summer program, I decided to purchase two more. The kids love the new books. I only didn't give this 5 stars because I didn't realize how small the books were going to be (that's probably my fault) but other than that, they're Perfect.

About the Author
Fergal Keane OBE was born in London and educated in Ireland. He is one of the BBC's most distinguished correspondents, having worked for the corporation in Northern Ireland, South Africa, Asia and the Balkans. He has been awarded a BAFTA and has been named reporter of the year on television and radio, winning honours from the Royal Television Society and the Sony Radio Awards. He has also been named Reporter of the Year in the Amnesty International Press Awards and won the James Cameron Prize and the Edward R.Murrow Award from the US Overseas Press Association.

Kohima- a Pivotal Battle in the Invasion of India in 1944

A great, well written book. Kohima was an epic struggle between British/Indian and Japanese forces in 1944. The Japanese invasion of India was their last major land offensive of WWII. A small, outnumbered British garrison held out for weeks against fierce Japanese assaults. The fighting was close range, often hand-to-had. Ultimately Kohima was relieved and the Japanese had to retreat due to lack of food and other supplies.

Keane does a masterful job of setting the stage for the battle. From the British retreat out of Burma in 1942 and increasing demands for Indian independence to the remote Assam region and Naga people. He is even handed in describing heroics of both British/Inidian and Japanese forces.

Good Addition to a Sadly Forgotten Battle

I guess I had heard initially of the battles of Imphal and Kohima while watching the Documentary World at War as a kid. Over the years I became obsessed with Burma campaign and its literature and narrative histories and have built up quite a library on the campaign. There is a lot here to write about... a battle of titans at the edge of empire in the twilight of empire. Jungle diseases, British county regiments far from home (regional accents replete from a different time), Indian cha wallahs and sepoys -- the backbone of the British Empire - fighting Japanese soldiers and Indian malcontents in the Indian National Army. All in a land ruled by headhunters and ruled over by benevolent and condescending British Officials thin on the ground.

While General Bill Slim expected a Japanese offensive, he did not expect the thrust to virtually cut off the 14th Army in the Imphal plain by hitting it so far behind their lines that the entire Army was cut off on the Imphal plain. The key pivot was the hill station of Kohima -- the entire battle hinged here. The Japanese arrived after an arduous march through 100s of miles of jungle with an entire division against a small garrison of Kentish men which numbered as little as 700 men at one one point.

The events, people and personalities, British, Indian, and Japanese are the focus of this narrative. Their bravery and seeming ability to simply endure in ways that perhaps modern armies cannot endure. I have been a fan of Mr. Keane since listening to his reports on the BBC.

This is not a narrative about grand movements or strategy - those are kept brief and descriptive. This is a narrative of peoples, their experiences and the thoughts marching into a meat cauldron in the middle of jungle. It is a story of disparate men and women coming from around the world, eventually partaking in this battle with focused at times on charges and counter charges over the commissioners tennis court. Where gore, mud, drugery and sheer terror crystalised men to action or broke their minds and spirits on a battlfield that resembed the Somme.

There are many stories here told by Keane. Of the an obssessive battle plan, marching three Japanese divisions through jungle with little preparation and not enough supplies - assuming they would survive on captured British supplies as they always had before. How Japan may have just about carried it off but for a small band of British and Indian soldiers who did not yeild Kohima. Eventually Japanese power wained and the supply and men deficit of the British Army eventually was succeeded by brilliant logistical planning of Slim and his staff access to American Dakota aircraft to ferry men into the Imphal plain.

The British stood and fought it out. They endureed. They did not run as in the past. The result was predictable. The Japanese Army furiosity was contained and eventually lack of suppplies turned a retreat into a route. With no hope of resupply and little hope of actually making their way back across the Chindwin River the Japanese fought and died - and died well - with a spirit accepting death as "light as a feather."

Keane adds a lot to the personal record in his book. Accounts from British, Indian and Japanese are a measure of his splendid research. He does little in adding to the general overview of the battle and does not advance any new ideas. But this is not that type of book. For people having a good background the personal narrative is interesting, but there is little new here. In fact almost no one will have a good understanding of the Burma campaign.... much less even knowing where Kohima is. In this sense Keane has done us a great favour in reminding us in a easily approachable volume that the modern world we live in is separated not only by forgotten battles in Indian and Burmese hills, but also modes of thought that may appear quaint, prejudicial or sheer barbaric are removed from us by a very small amout of historical time. The world is of course a better place for the defeat of Imperial Japan and Indian Independence was surely inevitable, but one wonders at times about the fortitude and perseverance of men for each other and for an idea. Surely those old soldiers -- British, Indian, Japanese -- deserve our consideration. Surely what they did and what they endured should never be forgotten. Keane's book reminds us of the importance of them all...

Fine Account of Japanese Defeat in Burma

At Kohima, the 14th Army, known as the `Forgotten Army' inflicted the most serious defeat on the Japanese army in their invasion of Burma and push towards India during the Second World War. Following this humiliating defeat, the Japanese suffered a total military catastrophe during their retreat back through Burma and this is vividly recorded in Fergal Keane's admirable book.

His interviews with key figures on both sides bring the ghastly rout of the Japanese army vividly alive. His meticulous research, e.g. interviewing General Sato and his family - tells the story as it should be told, emphasising the total horror of war for all participants.

A compelling and scholarly work

International best-selling author Laurence Gardner, has fulfilled all expectations with this well researched and scholarly approach to a mystery that spans thousands of years.
Gardner's contention is that the Biblical Ark of the Covenant was in reality: a capacitor that made it a powerful and deadly weapon, a superconductor that allowed it to levitate above ground, and a machine for manufacturing a substance called "Mfkzt" by the ancient Egyptians, "manna" by the Hebrews, and the "philosophers stone" by alchemists. At first glance, these propositions seem preposterous, and yet, after following his trail of logic, one wonders how it could have been anything other than what he insists it was.
A 1904 expedition to Mount Horeb (which the King James Version of the bible claims was the place Moses received the Ten Commandments) discovered the ruins of an Egyptian temple with hundreds of artifacts including: huge statues, obelisks, round tables, crucibles, vases and wands, and most significantly tons of a white powder conceled beneath flagstone. Through his research Gardner has ascertained that this white substance called "mfkzt" was a monotomic powdered gold.
By a special process of arc heating, gold and other platinum group metals, can be turned into a single atom or monotomic substance, that has superconductive properties. Superconductive materials are capable of leviation above magnetic fields, and Gardner speculates, that the powdered substance contained in the ark might have given it such capabilities. How else, he asks would it have been possible for four men to carry the ark when the lid alone, which was made of pure gold, has been calculated to have weighed around 2,714 pounds. It has been determined that a superconductive material will lose about 40% of its weight as a result of repulsing the earths own magnetic field. This could have made the transport of the ark manageable and therefore consistant with biblical references of the ark being marched around the city of Jericho for example.
The ark's design gives credence, as well, to stories of the destrutive powers of the ark. Biblical records clearly specifiy that the ark was constructed of wood sandwiched between layers of gold. Gardner realized that these are the specifications of a simple capacitor, and calculates that the ark would have charged to several thousand volts, making it a powerful and deadly weapon.

As we find out in this story, the superconductive properties of mfkzt was really only a by-product that the ancients might have stumbled upon. Its main purpose was that of consumption. Numerous ancient references of mfkzt, often called "white bread" or "manna" relate to it being eaten for its healthful affects. Recent biochemical experiments have confirmed that monotomic platinum group metals have shown antiaging affects by increasing melatonine production, stimulate the pineal and pituitary glands, and in turn reactivation "junk DNA."
Gardner parallels the story of this ancient mystery with contemporary physics, as well as a tale of intrigue and government conspiracy regarding a farmer, who discoverd the monotomic substance on his Arizona ranch!
At times, this book was a bit tedious for me, because of the endless historical references, but this is only a criticism of my own lack of knowledge and interest in this area. For the most part, however, this book read like a good mystery novel and I'm glad that I stuck with it for the wealth of knowledge within. All in all this book was a gem.
