About the Author
David Starkey is the Bye Fellow of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, and the author of 'Elizabeth: The Struggle for the Throne'. A winner of the W. H. Smith Prize and the Norton Medlicott Medal for Services to History presented by Britain's Historical Association, Mr. Starkey lives in London.

Verbatim identical to excellent TV show, definitely enjoyable

I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could. Well written and entertaining. It is almost verbatim identical to his TV series. I sat there and read along with his text for the Imperial Crown episode. I do object to Starkey's take on history, such as the Wars of the Roses, that is outside his key research area. I found it absurdly slanted towards the Lancastrians - it was a bit too "through the looking glass" for me.
His prose crackles with life, however, and he vivifies the material marvelously.
